Whether it’s parents looking for fun activities for their children or a chance to enrich the learning experience, the Henderson area offers several summer camp opportunities. 

Build Math Skills

Mathease, 1720 W. Horizon Ridge Parkway, plans a math camp this summer to help youths get ahead before fall classes.

The camp is expected to include lessons on pre-algebra, algebra, geometry, trigonometry, calculus and SAT and ACT preparation.

Tutors can also help students who might have struggled with certain concepts in the previous semester.

“Tutors customize math camp to each individual student,” said Patricia Gordon, founder and owner of Mathease. “This way your son or daughter can learn at his or her own speed.”

On average, most students attend two sessions a week, which is what Gordon recommends. Classes are scheduled to start June 13.

4-H Camps Emphasis STEM Skills

The University of Nevada Cooperative Extension plans to offer 4-H summer day camps focusing on Science, Technology, Engineering and Math at the Lifelong Learning Center, 8050 Paradise Road.

Karen Best, who works for the program, said having a summer camp focusing on science and technology programs is important.

“STEM camps help with school retention and readiness,” she said.

The day camps are slated to have activities centered around plant and animal sciences, health and nutrition, computer science and aerospace.

“We will have a lot of guest speakers,” Best said.

The first session, open to children 7 to 11, is scheduled from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. June 24 to 26. The second session, open to youths 9 to 14, is scheduled from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. July 15 to 17. The cost of each camp is $60 per person. Sibling registration is $45. Costs are expected to include snacks and activities.

“The programs are fun and very popular,” Best said. “We have a lot of returning campers.”

Soccer Camps to Kick Off In June

Former professional soccer player Etienne Barbara is slated to put on a Nxt Generation Summer Camp from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. June 23 through 27 at the Henderson International School, 1165 Sandy Ridge Ave.

The camp fee is $495. Students can also sign up for the extended camp for $50 per hourlong session, which includes a one-on-one session with a coach.

At the Nxt Generation Summer Seminar, Barbara plans to bring in local chefs and nutritionists to educate youths about the importance a balanced diet plays in advancing athletic goals. This additional program costs $25 a day and $125 a week and is expected to include a lunch prepared by a local chef.

Bounce into Summer

Featuring indoor inflatable obstacle structures, BounceU, 1000 Stephanie Place, plans to offer summer camp sessions June 9 through Aug. 22. Each week has a different theme, such as superhero week or under the sea. The camps are scheduled from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. daily for children ages 3 to 13.

Henderson Offers Kids and Teen Camps

The city of Henderson offers summer Kids Zone programs for children ages 5 to 12 and Teen Kamp programs for teens 12 to 15 from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. June 9-Aug. 22 at the Black Mountain Recreation Center, 599 Greenway Road, 702-267-4070; the Henderson Multigenerational Center, 250 S. Green Valley Parkway, 702-267-5800; the Silver Springs Recreation Center, 1951 Silver Springs Parkway, 702-267-5720; and the Whitney Ranch Recreation Center, 1575 Galleria Drive, 702-267-5850.
